We have merged Tallaght Tomiki Aikido Ryu and Greenhills Tomiki Aikido Ryu to form our new club Dublin Tomiki Aikido. For more information please check out our new official website www.tomikiaikido.ie
With Japanese origins that go back many centuries, Tomiki Aikido as practiced today includes joint locking techniques, throws, takedowns and body movements from many of the ancient fighting methods taught, used and perfected by the samurai in feudal Japan.
Tomiki Aikido is a full contact but non aggressive martial art. It is considered a "soft" art because of the lack of kicks and punches. Force is never opposed by force. Tomiki Aikido's principles are based on exploiting the weakness of an opponent. Many people are impressed by the often spectacular locks and throws executed by students and instructors alike. Training can be fast and demanding, yet the consideration for oneself and ones partner is never lost. In essence, Tomiki Aikido is turning an opponent's power against themselves and in doing this, Tomiki Aikido teaches self defence.
Police Forces, Prison Officers, Security Staff and Military Personnel all over the world are taught Aikido techniques. This is because Aikido teaches the use of simple pain compliant techniques to neutralise and restrain an attacker without causing them any long term injuries. By using the attacker's momentum, the Aikido student takes the attacker's balance, controls his force, and ultimately neutralizes the attack.
